Venice, Italy – City Guide

Venice, Italy

Venice is located in northeastern Italy and the capital of the Veneto region. It is sited on a group of small islands that are separated by famous canals and linked by bridges.  Parts of city are renowned for the beauty of their settings, their architecture, and artwork.

Venice

Naturally you will be able to not only walk the narrow streets taking in the natural Venetian architecture but you should also experience it by the water.  The main forms of water transport are the gondola, water taxi and the water bus.  The gondola are going to be the most expensive and are more for the tourist experience rather then actual transport from A to B.  To take in all the sites much faster and cheaper we recommend the water taxi which can get you to most places and still let you take all the snaps you want to remember the trip by.  The third and cheapest option is the water bus.  It is usually packed to capacity during the tourist season because its naturally the cheapest option to get around but the places they stop and frequency are obviously less accommodating.  Which ever option you pick you are sure to enjoy the experience in this unique setting.

Accommodation in Venice

Ca’Doge – For a great value and well situated hotel, Clever Voyage recommends Ca’Doge. It is an older style but clean and comfortable Venetian hotel and situated right next door to the People Mover, great if you are cruising from local port which is a 2 minute ride to the Cruise Terminal. Great included breakfast, parking provided and best of all you don’t need to drag all of your luggage across multiple stairs and bridges like the majority of of hotels.

Be sure to check where your hotel is located since some are very far from the drop of point when arriving by car or bus.  Many people arrive and will spend sometimes hours hauling their luggage across the bridges.  Especially if you have younger children or prams this may take the shine off the arrive and departure days of your trip.
